Norman conquers Medvedev
Norman: An easy victory for the third seed
Norman: An easy victory for the third seed
Sweden's Magnus Norman marched into the French Open quarter-final after a convincing win against Ukraine's Andrei Medvedev.

Norman beat last year's finalist 6-0 6-4 6-2 in a rain-affected game in Paris on Monday.

Third-seeded Norman was on the verge of victory when rain halted the fourth-round men's singles match.

Norman, aiming for the first Grand Slam title of his career, led 6-0 6-4 4-1 on a bleak, wet and cloudy afternoon.

But an hour later the rain had cleared and Norman polished off an easy win.

Combat

Norman is the highest seed left in the tournament after the early departures of Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras.

He has so far not lost a set - or even played a tie-breaker.

The Swede took just 20 minutes to win the first set after the start of play had been delayed by rain for more than an hour.

Medvedev was able to win just six points.

Norman now plays 12th-seed Marat Safin who beat Cedric Pioline 6-4 1-6 6-3 7-5.
