Magnus Norman has hit the best form of his career
Form players Magnus Norman and Marat Safin reconfirmed their status as two of the tournament favourites by hammering out straight sets wins to reach the French Open's last 16 on Saturday.

Third seed Norman, the highest left in the men's draw, brushed aside Armenia's Sargis Sargsian 6-4 6-1 6-2, while Safin overpowered Germany's Tommy Haas 7-6 6-3 6-3.

Marat Safin
Marat Safin: Powerful
The Swedish star lost his only previous match against Sargsian 6-2 6-0 last year at Delray Beach, but has been on an incredible run since then.

He reached the Australian Open semifinals in January, captured his first Masters Series title in Rome last month and is the current leader in the ATP's Champions' Race.

Safin, the no. 12 seed, had never beaten Haas before Saturday's third round clash but under the tutelage of former Tour player Andrei Chesnokov he has flourished.

Some of his best results this season have been on the European clay circuit, winning consecutive titles at Barcelona and Mallorca.

He also pushed Gustavo Kuerten all the way in the Hamburg Masters Series final before losing in five sets last month.

His power game proved too much for Haas on Centre Court and he forced the German into far too many unforced errors as he eased into the fourth round.

Last year's beaten finalist Andrei Medvedev also moved into the last 16 by beating Agustin Calleri of Argentina 6-3 3-6 6-4 6-3.
