French fears over Dal Maso

Marc Dal Maso faces a tense few days to discover if he plays

Marc Dal Maso could be forced to pull out of the France World Cup squad after the second-choice hooker twisted his knee in training.

The 30-year-old damaged ligaments and will undergo tests this weekend to decide if he is fit to play in the tournament.

Marc De Rougemont is standing by to take his place in the squad.

And there was further bad news for the beleaguered French team, when French fly-half Thomas Castaignede - the team's key player and one of the potential sytars of the World Cup - delivered a damning verdict on his own form.

Castaignede, who has had a variety of injury problems the past two years, said: "At the moment the form isn't there.

"I'm trying to do all I can but at the moment that does not amount to a lot."
