Clive Woodward
Appointed England coach in September 1997. Former England centre and a double British Lion in 1980 and 1983.

Bill Beaumont
Increasingly influential administrator after a distinguished career as England captain and British Lions skipper.

Captained England to 1980 Grand Slam and in the same year led the Lions in South Africa. Retired prematurely in 1982 with persistent head injuries. Recently appointed to the International Rugby Board.

Brian Baister
Elected chairman of the RFU management board in July 1998. Former deputy chief constable of Cheshire.

Francis Baron
RFU chief executive since last October. Background in communications, notably with various TV networks.

Peter Trunkfield
RFU president since July 1998. Trunkfield is known as well abroad as in his Buckinghamshire constituency. He has been a very popular liaison officer to touring teams from the southern hemisphere over the past 20 years.

Fran Cotton
Controversial figure who resigned from the RFU 13 months ago but is now back as chairman of 'Team England'.

Captained England in 1975. A treble British Lion in 1974, 77 and 80, he managed the victorious Lions two years ago in their tour of South Africa during which the incidents under discussion are alleged to have taken place.
