Wigan sign Auckland forward

wigan Brady Malam will join Wigan for one season

Wigan have signed New Zealander Brady Malam from the Auckland Warriors.

The 25-year-old front-row forward, who has never been capped, has signed a one year deal.

Malam, whose arrival is dependant on a work permit, will fill the overseas quota spot vacated when former Manly centre Danny Moore left for London Broncos on Monday.

Wigan team manager Dean Bell, the former New Zealand Test player, said: "Brady is a young forward who was at Auckland Warriors when I was there.

"I haven't seen him play in the last couple of years but Frank has a high regard for him."

Malam is Wigan's fourth closed-season overseas recruit following the arrival of scrum-half Willie Peters and former Australian international legendary centre Steve Renouf - who were unveiled at the JJB Stadium on Wednesday - and winger Brett Dallas, who is due to fly in with Endacott on January 3.

In Endacott's absence, Bell will be in charge for the Boxing Day friendly with St Helens at the JJB Stadium.

Peters and hooker Terry Newton, a recent buy from Leeds, will be in the starting line-up, with Renouf on the bench.

In another boost for Wigan, who finished last season without a piece of silverware for the first time in 15 years, it was revealed that long-term absentee Gary Connolly, could be back for Wigan's next friendly at Salford on January 28.

There were fears for Connolly's future after carrying worrying neck and groin injuries throughout last season, but Bell said: "We're told he is going to make a full recovery and that is great news."
