Banned Haga wins at Hockenheim

Haga win was tempered by his ban
Yahama rider Noriyuki Haga rode to World Superbike success in Hockenheim, but now faces a month-long doping ban.

Ducati's Troy Bayliss won the opening race to record his first win in the event, after taking over from the injured Carl Fogarty earlier in the season.

Haga came third in that race before winning the second, but now faces a month long suspension after the International Motorcycling Federation found the rider had tested positive for the stimulant ephedrine.

The Japanese star was allowed to compete in the German round, but will miss the next two events, unless he is successful with an appeal.

Australian Bayliss faced a battle royale against Kawasaki rider Akira Yanagawa.

Haga skills

He was second behind the Japan rider coming into the last lap, before a cunning manoeuvre edged him away from Yanagawa and to the finish line.

Haga came home third and then went two better in the following race.

Bayliss recorded his first victory

After a tense tussle with American Colin Edwards on the final lap, the Yamaha rider pulled away on the final corner to record a bittersweet victory.

Championship leader Edwards was second on his Honda ahead of Italy's Pier-Francesco Chili.

Texan Edwards came fourth in the first race but now holds a commanding 40-point lead over Chili in the championship.

Edwards said after the race, that he was more than aware of Haga's skills during the second outing.

"After a disappointing first race I wanted to make amends with a win. But Haga goes for any gap and I guess there was enough of one there," said Edwards.
