Monty makes it four

Untouchable: Colin Montgomerie in full swing

Colin Montgomerie has destroyed the rest of the field to win the Scandinavian Masters by a mammoth nine-shots and 20 under for the tournament.

The BBC's Norman Dabell: "Jets are flying overhead in a victory salute to Monty"
In driving wind and rain at Barsebeck in Sweden, the Scot shot a final day three under par 69 to add to his shot-perfect third round 65 and two consecutive 67s from the earlier rounds.

After his win he was in reflective mood, saying: "It was a funny day. In a way I had everything to lose.

"It was very difficult, the wind was always gusting and it was miserable. I had a game plan to make pars.

Merit win on

"It was a bonus that the weather was so bad that no-one could make a charge."

The £166,000 prize places the Scot in an almost unassailable position for his seventh consecutive Order of Merit.

Scandinavian Masters champion Colin Montgomerie: "It's always nice to be on top"
Even defending champion Jesper Parnevik, playing on home soil, could not make a dent in Montgomerie's lead and lost all hope when he found the trees on the 17th.

He finished the day on par and 11 over for the tournament.

Parnevik had shared second place with Paul Broadhurst going into the final round, but the Englishman began to slip out of contention with a bogey on the first hole and finished with a disastrous 75.

New course record holder Greg Ogilvy, a 22-year old Australian rookie, kept his composure to finish joint third overall with May of the US on 10 over.

He shot a 62 on the second day to shatter the previous mark of 65 at Barsebeck.
