Dodds double crushes Saints

St Johnstone 0-2 Rangers

Rangers celebrated winning the Scottish Premier League with a victory over St Johnstone, courtesy of two Billy Dodds goals, at McDiarmid Park.

The champions went ahead just before the interval when Dodds converted Rangers' first shot on target.

It has been a difficult season - even if it looked easy. But it was never easy

Jorg Albertz' low pass found the striker who conjured an awesome first touch shot that beat Saints' reserve keeper Stephen Robertson at his near post.

Dodds thumped home his second on the hour, when he converted a neatly flighted cross from Seb Rozental.

Rangers skipper Lorenzo Amoruso said that Rangers 20-points clear romp to the SPL title "wasn't easy" despite appearances.

"It has been a difficult season - even if it looked easy. But it was never easy," he said.

"We had a lot of pressure on us - we were the champions and the Treble winners last season.

It was great to get two goals. It's a great day for me - my first championship - it's brilliant

"We also changed many players and had a new manager so I think we have seen some improvement this season because we have had one more year of experience."

Scotland midfielder Barry Ferguson said the Old Firm clashes were a decisive factor, despite Celtic waning as a force this season.

"Consistency was all important and the last Old Firm game at Parkhead was the one that probably won it for us," he said.

Dodds was delighted with two more goals that cement his positon as the league's second most prolific marksman.

"It was great to get two goals. It's a great day for me - my first championship - it's brilliant," he said.

"I said all along that this has all come for me at once and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it."
