Wallace inspires Rangers rout

Dundee 1-7 Rangers
Rod Wallace scored a hat-trick as Rangers romped to a 7-1 victory over a demoralised Dundee. The Glasgow giants raced into a 6-1 half-time lead, the biggest in Scottish Premier League history, with four goals coming in a 15-minute spell before the break. The floodgates opened at Dens Park after just 75 seconds when Wallace scored his first and the deluge continued until the interval. Wallace tapped in a second and chased a long ball for his third all before half-time. Tony Vidmar, Jorg Albertz and Seb Rozental, making his first start for three years, had all added their names to the score sheet by the break. Dundee defender Steven Tweed scored his side's only goal - but also added Rangers seventh when he deflected a cross into his own net three minutes from time. Rangers, who have taken 55 points from 22 matches, now hold an 11-point lead at the top of the table, although second-placed Celtic have a match in hand. That match, at Parkhead on Wednesday, is against Dundee. Even if Celtic inflict a similar pounding on the Dens Park side, the steamroller that is Rangers appears to be heading unstopppably towards its 49th Scottish League title. Teams: Dundee: Douglas, Sharp, Wilkie, Smith, Tweed, Miller, Robertson, Rae, Van Eijs, Grady, Falconer. Subs: Langfield, Raeside, Boyack, Annand, Bayne. Rangers: Klos, Numan, Wilson, Vidmar, Van Bronckhorst, Albertz, Reyna, Kanchelskis, Kerimoglu, Wallace, Rozental. Subs: Charbonnier, McCann, Durie, Ross, Gibson. Referee: Hugh Dallas (Scotland) |
