Rangers cruising away

Dundee Utd 0-4 Rangers

Rangers extended their lead at the top of the Premier League with an effortless 4-0 away win over Dundee United.

Tony Vidmar opened the scoring after just eight minutes and then played a crucial role in Rangers second fourteen minutes later.

Rod Wallace added a third and Neil McCann made it four five minutes from time as the Glasgow side coasted nine points clear.

United were without first-choice midfield duo Jan Telesnikov and Craig Easton through injury but hardly helped their cause with some poor defending.

Vidmar's headed home his opener after Alan Combe had spilled a Giovanni Van Bronckhorst corner.

And though Combe looked to have redeemed himself after 22 minutes when he pushed away a powerful goalward bound angled drive from Van Bronckhorst, the errors continued.

From the resulting Van Bronckhorst corner, Combe was left standing as the ball cleared him and was bundled in at the far post.

It initially appeared to be a second strike for the Australian defender but television replays indicated the final touch had been from United defender Partridge.

The home team came close to pulling a goal back in the second half, but squandered the chances.

Substitute Hamilton did well to meet a Pascual cross but his downward header was saved well by Klos.

And Jonsson had another chance just after the hour mark but his shot was too close to the keeper.

The miss was decisive.

Five minutes later Rangers, spurred by the danger, were three ahead as they effortlessly upped the tempo.

Numan found the space to drill a low cross from the left, which Wallace guided past Combe with a flicked header to seal the game.

McCann added a fourth for good measure as Rangers' lead begins to appear unassailable with more than half the season yet to play.
