Wastefull Killie pay the price

Kilmarnock 1-1 Dundee Utd

Kilmarnock out-played opponents Dundee United but passed up an opportunity to climb the table.

The home side dominated and should have had the game sewn up by half time with an Ian Durrant penalty just one of a number of chances wasted.

Christophe Cocard did score from the spot when given the chance after half time.

But David Hannah equalised against the run of play after 65 minutes.

Durrant's penalty was awarded when keeper Alan Combe pulled down Cocard as the Frenchman attempted to round him.

The keeper dived to his right to save.

Durrant almost redeemed himself with a volley from 20 yards that flew just wide of the goal.

And Cocard almost gave the Rugby Park side the lead three minutes before the interval when his header from a Mark Reilly corner was just a foot high above the crossbar.

Referee Jim McCluskey awarded Killie their second penalty when David Worrell impeded Ally Mitchell as the winger made his way to goal.

This time Cocard confidently slotted the ball into the corner of the net for his fourth goal in six games.

But with 25 minutes remaining David Hannah rose unchallenged to meet Craig Easton's header and although Kilmarnock pushed men into attack United held out for a point.

Teams:

Kilmarnock: Meldrum, MacPherson, McGowne, Lauchlan, Hay, Mitchell, Holt, Durrant, Reilly, Cocard, Jeffrey. Subs: Watt, Vareille, Burke, McCutcheon, Davidson.

Dundee Utd: Combe, Worrell, Partridge, De Vos, Pascual, Hannah, Davidson, Easton, Telesnikov, Dodds, Thompson. Subs: Onstad, Malpas, McCulloch, McConalogue, Ferraz.

Referee: Jim McCluskey (Scotland)
