McCulloch the man for Motherwell
Dundee 0-1 Motherwell Motherwell deserved to win at Dens Park and extend their unbeaten run to five games. On a bitterly cold afternoon it was the visitors who were the more impressive of the two sides and thoroughly deserved to leave with three points. Lee McCulloch grabbed the important first half goal which may just have pushed up his transfer value amid speculation about his future. For the home side debutant Nicky Banger was sent off after making an appearance as a first half subsitute. Kevin Twaddle wasted early chances for the visitors as Dundee were reduced to occasional breaks. In the 24th minute a Shaun McSkimming corner caused some panic in the Motherwell defence but the ball was cleared to the edge of the box. In 34 minutes Dundee should have scored. Falconer's cross found Steven Boyack free at the back post but his shot was too tame to bother Woods in goal. Well lead at the break Motherwell took the lead right on the half time whistle. McCulloch picked up a loose ball from a corner and drove a low 20-yard shot past Douglas. With only a minute gone in the second half Banger nearly equalised for Dundee. He picked up a pass on the edge of the Motherwell box but his low shot was parried away by Woods. He received his marching orders in 81 minutes for an off the ball incident involving Motherwell defender Kemble. And McCulloch should have added to Motherwell's lead although Dundee forced the visitors back without making the crucial breakthrough.
