Exit door opens for Amato

Amato: Struggled to make an impact in Scottish football

Glasgow Rangers striker Gabriel Amato has been linked with a return to Spanish football after less than one season at Ibrox.

The Argentine striker, who cost 4.2m when Rangers signed him from Real Mallorca, has been unable to hold down a first-team place.

He was on the bench for last weekend's 6-1 win over Dundee and is behind Rod Wallace, Jonatan Johansson and Stephane Guivarc'h in the battle for places up front.

Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Amato is on a list of players they are interested in signing.

But an Atletico spokeswoman said: "We have to look at all the options and weight everything up before we come to a decision."
