Newcastle face Chelsea clash
Newcastle will have to beat Chelsea to reach their third successive FA Cup final, after being drawn against their Premiership rivals in the last four. The other Wembley tie will see the only Nationwide League left side in the competition, Bolton Wanderers, take on Aston Villa. Both matches are being played at the national stadium on successive weekends in April, because the ground is due to close down for redevelopment in the summer. Bolton and Villa, both losing Worthington Cup semi-finalists this season, meet in the first match on 2 April. The Premiership sides then square up to each other a week later on 9 April. Newcastle captain Alan Shearer admitted he and his team-mates were not concentrating on the opposition as they aim to at last win the cup after defeats in the last two finals. "We're just pleased to have got through, because it was a hell of a battle against Tranmere," he said. "But we're pleased with the draw. We hope our name is on the cup this year and if we are to win it then we'll have to beat the best teams. Chelsea are definitely one of the best." Semi-final draw: Bolton Wanderers v Aston Villa Sunday 2 April Newcastle United v Chelsea Sunday 9 April Both games to be played at Wembley |
