Collins heads Fulham into the lead

Fulham 3-0 Wimbledon

First Division side Fulham claimed the Premiership scalp of Wimbledon as they outclassed their London rivals with a 3-0 FA Cup victory at Craven Cottage.

We've a lot of ambitious players here who want to get into the Premiership and they have proved once again that they are not far short of that standard
Fulham manager Paul Bracewell
Wayne Collins and Steve Finnan gave the underdogs a dream start in fourth-round tie - bagging a goal each in a first-half spell which winged the Premiership side - before Collins applied the killer blow 13 minutes from time.

Fulham boss Paul Bracewell had strung a quartet of central defenders across the back four in a bid to combat Wimbledon's aerial assault.

But far from sitting back in awe of their Premiership neighbours, Fulham attacked Wimbledon's injury ravaged backline in style.

Neil Sullivan did his best to keep the Dons in the hunt as Barry Hayles and Geoff Horsfield peppered his goal.

Fulham's opening strike was fashioned by former Sunderland man Kevin Ball and Lee Clark, who found Barry Hayles in the box. He lifted a cross to Collins at the far post where he headed home.

Clark and Hayles played key roles three minutes later as Fulham added as second.

Finnan's tap in turned the game
Wimbledon's back four stood waiting for an offiside flag but it stayed down as Hayles ran onto a Clarke through ball before crossing to Finnan for a simple tap in.

Fulham put together pass after pass in a midfield move before Horsfield forged to the byline with typical aggression and pulled the ball into the goalmouth where Collins forced home his second.

Wimbledon did have chances - Damien Francis putting the best of them over the bar just before half time.

But Fulham handsomely deserved this cup upset by some margin - and Leicester could be next.

They await Bracewell's side in the Worthington Cup quarter-final in midweek.
