Coventry slay giantkillers
Coventry 3-0 Burnley Coventry's Youssef Chippo scored twice to dump Second Division Burnley out of the FA Cup. It took the Morrocan just 11 minutes to put the Premiership side ahead as they made short work of getting into the fifth round.
Noel Whelan completed the demolition with a third goal on 74 minutes.
The match was barely underway when a deft one-two with Gary McAllister gave Chippo space enough to drill an outrageous 30-yard drive past keeper Paul Crichton. The northerners never looked like repeating their giant killing exploits against Derby as Robbie Keane and Cedric Roussel went close in the opening minutes. Burnley got into the game on 28 minutes when John Mullin fired in a shot from outside the area only to be denied by Magnus Hedman in the Coventry goal.
But the Midlanders were always dominant and their other Moroccan star, Hadji, went narrowly off target just before the interval.
Chippo troubled Crichton via another blistering 25-yard drive two minutes after the restart, then his compatriot drilled one against the post and Steve Davis had to step in to head a Roussel shot off the line. The pressure was too much for Burnley, who conceded their second goal after a brief, but lively fightback. On 70 minutes, Paul Telfer fed Chippo, who sent in a sharply angled, curling shot that beat the keeper at his far post, edging in at the top corner. Whelan finished the rout minutes after he was brought on to replace Roussel, with a bullet of a drive from 12 yards.
