Fergie wins manager award

Sir Alex: 13 trophies in 14 years
Sir Alex Ferguson has been rewarded for Manchester United's domination of the Premiership with the Carling Manager of the Year award.

The Ferguson success story ... is now part of British footballing history

The Carling panel

He will collect the trophy for the fifth time in seven seasons at Thursday's League Managers' Association dinner at the De Vere Belton Woods Hotel, near Grantham.

Ferguson also took the manager of the month award three times during the 1999-2000 season.

"You cannot argue with success and that is one thing that Sir Alex Ferguson has in abundance," said the awards panel.

"While you may not support United, you cannot help but have respect for a manager who has taken Manchester United on to new levels.

"We shouldn't forget that when Ferguson took over at Manchester United, they were facing troubled times.

"The Ferguson success story that followed is now part of British footballing history and it is this achievement that we feel should be recognised."

This season's Premiership title increased Ferguson's haul to 13 major trophies in 14 years at Old Trafford, including last season's unique league, FA Cup and Champions League treble.
