We won't let Heskey go - O'Neill

Emile Heskey has been linked to Liverpool

Leicester boss Martin O'Neill is set to offer England striker Emile Heskey a new deal in a bid to keep him at Filbert Street.

Heskey has been linked to a number of clubs, most notably Liverpool, but O' Neill hopes the lure of European football next season will persuade Heskey to remain at Leicester.

"A lot will be down to the lad himself because eventually in this day and age it's the player who makes the decision," O'Neill said.

"But Emile is priceless, so I will move heaven and earth to keep him at the club - and we're in Europe, so you never know.

"I would really love him to stay and I think the other players would as well."

Heskey produced his second impressive display at Wembley in four days following his full England debut against Argentina, as the Foxes secured their second League Cup success in the space of four years with a 2-1 triumph.

Matt Elliott headed home the two Leicester goals from corners - first to put his side ahead on 28 minutes and then to confirm victory with 12 minutes left.

In between the defender's strikes, 34-year-old Tranmere striker David Kelly snatched an unlikely equaliser after the First Division side had been reduced to 10 men.
