I'll take it on the chin - Collymore

Collymore Stan Collymore's highly controversial career continues

Leicester's Stan Collymore has insisted he is happy with his new club, despite being fined two weeks wages by manager Martin O'Neill.

Collymore admitted to letting off a fire extinguisher in a bar at the La Manga resort in Spain, an action which resulted in the team's players and coaches being expelled.

Maybe in this circumstance, I'll hold my hands up and say 'Naivety' but, at the end of the day, I haven't killed anybody.

Collymore later apologised for the incident.

It is the latest chapter in a highly controversial career, but the former England international claimed he had settled well after little over a week at the club.

"There has been a lot made of me not getting on with lads but it is a load of rubbish," Collymore said.

O'Neill Martin O'Neill held a lengthy press conferecne on Thursday
"As soon as I came to the club, one of the ladies from the backroom staff took me around and introduced me to everybody at Filbert Street.

"The lads embraced me and said they wanted me to come here and play well.

"Maybe in this circumstance, I'll hold my hands up and say 'Naivety' but, at the end of the day, I haven't killed anybody.

"I let a fire extinguisher off and it was a mistake but I'll take the fine on the chin.

"The way I feel, I am confident that I can do a job for Leicester and that is the most important thing away from all this circus. It is the price you pay for being a footballer."

Apology

Collymore apologised to his new manager O'Neill but was adamant there was no raucous behaviour among the Leicester players.

"Yes, I did let the fire extinguisher off over our physio who was about two or three yards away. After that, we were packed off to bed," Collymore said.

I apologise but I feel bad that everybody has jumped on the bandwagon and it has caused embarrassment to the club

"I will take the consequences and I do apologise to the manager, who has been put in a situation where he has had to give a press conference. But we were just having a laugh with the lads.

"We were in the hotel bar and there was a pianist singing a bit of karaoke. A few of the lads were sat there having a laugh and a drink.

"After the music went off, we were messing around with one of the physios. He was about five yards away and I didn't get up and pull the fire extinguisher off the wall. I pressed it and it was a powder one and it went over the physio.

"I apologise to the manager because he shouldn't have to be sitting in a press conference.

"I fully accept the fine that the club has imposed but a million players have done it and a million more will do it in the future."
