Draw made for Mali 2002
The organisers of the African Cup of Nations have made the draw for the initial qualifying stages of the 2002 tournament in Mali. The winners of the preliminary-round matches and the teams who received byes will go into a fresh draw during July, when seven groups of four will be created with the winners and runners-up qualifying for the finals. Hosts Mali and the Nations Cup holders qualify for the finals automatically. Preliminary draw: Guinea Bissau v Morocco Gambia v Guinea Equatorial Guinea v Angola Cape Verde Islands v Liberia Mauritania v Burkina Faso Sierra Leone v Togo Benin v Namibia Niger v Cote d'Ivoire Sao Tome e Principe v Gabon Central African Republic v Democratic Republic of Congo Sudan v Eritrea Rwanda v Congo Djibouti v Burundi Botswana v Madagascar Chad v Libya Ethiopia v Zambia Seychelles v Zimbabwe Tanzania v Mauritius Uganda v Malawi Lesotho v Mozambique Swaziland v Kenya First legs: June 30-July 2, second: July 14-16 Byes: Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia and losers of 2000 Nations Cup final between Cameroon and Nigeria. |
