Venables rules out England return
Terry Venables and Gareth Southgate
El Tel consoles Gareth Southgate after the Euro 96 loss
Former England manager Terry Venables insists he has no plans for a return to management despite hinting last week he would be willing to accept a second spell in charge of the national team if Kevin Keegan were to stand down.

"I've said this before - it's always very difficult to say never on something, because if you did do something later on they'd say you were lying in the first place," said Venables.

"But I've got no intentions to go back into football - I've said that many times now.

"That's the way I feel at the moment and I can't see me changing my mind. No-one's asked me anyway, so."

Venables, who has managed a number of club sides, including Spurs and Barcelona, was named England coach in January 1994.

But after leading the team to the semi-finals of Euro 96, Venables resigned in order to concentrate on a series of legal wrangles.

He later became manager of the Australian national team, and has also had brief stints at Portsmouth and Crystal Palace.

When asked on Monday if he would fill the void if the FA did ask him to lead his country again, Venables said: "No, no. Certainly not."
