Pistone signs for Everton
Alessandro Pistone
New Blue: Alessandro Pistone in action for Newcastle
Everton have completed the signing of Italian defender Alessandro Pistone from Newcastle for 3m.

The Italian defender agreed to a five-year deal after thrashing out terms and passing a medical, the two clubs having discussed the fee earlier this month.

The leftback said: "I wanted to stay in England and that is why I signed for Everton. I came here because I wanted to achieve things."

Everton manager Walter Smith, who has been following Pistone from the time he played at Inter Milan, said: "He likes to get involved in the game and move up the pitch.

"He is aggressive and I think he will add to our game in that department."

Pistone put in some good performances last season after he was returned to the Newcastle line-up by new manager Bobby Robson.

Prior to Robson's appointment he had been frozen out by former boss Ruud Guillit.
