Bantams to play in Europe
Bradford won their last match of the season to stay up
Bradford won their last match of the season to stay up
After securing Premiership survival on the last day of the season, Bradford's players could have been forgiven for looking forward to a long summer break.

But a shock decision by the club to try and secure a UEFA Cup place by competing in the Intertoto Cup, means they will be back at work earlier than expected.

There is also every possibility they could face a trip to Turkey in their opening game.

Bradford, who will join Aston Villa as the English representatives in the coming season's Intertoto, will join the competition in at the second round.

They will meet the winners of a first-round game between an un-named Turkish side and Atlantis of Lithuania, with the prospect of a match against Waalwijk of Holland in the third round.

Two places were originally up for grabs for English clubs, but Bradford were the only other side who showed an interest in competing in the second round which takes place at the beginning of July.

With UEFA insisting back in April it would not accept a relegated side into the competition, Bradford decided against entering.

However, they retained their place in the Premiership on the last day of the season.

With an Italian team dropping out of the competition, Bradford are set to play their first game away on 1 or 2 July, with the second leg a week later.

The winners of each of three groups in the Intertoto compeition will be entered into the draw for the UEFA Cup.
