Gunners appeal over Henry dismissal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger criticised referee Kim Nielson after Thierry Henry's controversial sending-off in Thursday's Uefa Cup quarter-final clash and announced he plans to appeal the decision.
The French forward scored in the Gunners' 4-2 win over Werder Bremen side which secured Arsenal's place in Friday's semi-final draw in Nyon, but was later dismissed for what looked an innocuous contact with Bremen defender Mike Barten.
Wenger had to be dragged away by his Highbury assistant Pat Rice from a nose-to-nose confrontation with fourth official Jorn Larsen as a bewildered Henry left the pitch.
Wenger now fears the French star could face a two-match ban and exclusion from the semi-final. "I am very angry about this," Wenger said. "The sending off was a decision I didn't agree with. "In any case Thierry shouldn't have been on the pitch there at the time. "I wanted to replace him with Marc Overmars, but the officials wouldn't let me make a double substitution." Uefa lifeline Uefa have thrown Henry a lifeline, however, by announcing they would set up a disciplinary meeting, if Arsenal make a complaint. A Uefa spokesman said: "We won't look at the incident unless there is a complaint from the club or player. "But if there is a complaint then there will be a meeting of the disciplinary committee and it will follow the usual procedure. "The player will be asked about the incident, and it is possible we will use video evidence to see what happened and the player will possibly have the chance to explain his gesture. "The referee's and delegate's report will also be taken into consideration - but he might not be suspended."
