Spurs pull out of Hartson deal

Hartson: Had knee surgery over Christmas
John Hartson's 6m move to Tottenham has collapsed after the player failed a medical at White Hart Lane.

Spurs had been on the verge of completing the purchase of Hartson having agreed terms with him and his club Wimbledon at the weekend.

It was just a routine medical and Tottenham were not happy with it. It's related to the cartilage operation he had over Christmas

But following a thorough medical on Monday, Spurs spokesman John Fennelly said they had 'reluctantly' pulled out of the deal.

Hartson's agent Jonathan Barnett said: "It was just a routine medical and Tottenham were not happy with it. It's related to the cartilage operation he had over Christmas.

"John is very upset but I think he will prove them wrong.

"He'll score a lot more goals for Wimbledon and maybe then another club. This is not the end for John.

"It's Tottenham's loss.

"With all the problems they have had (with injured players) I think they've gone overboard.

"As far as we're concerned that's it, there's no chance of resurrecting it."

Hartson's had hoped the transfer would bring a swift end to his inauspicious 14-month Wimbledon career following his club record 7.5million move from West Ham.

The Welsh international spent long periods injured or suspended for the Dons, playing only 28 games, scoring 10 goals.

He had jumped at the chance to rejoin former Arsenal boss George Graham at White Hart Lane.

Graham signed him from Luton Town as a teenager for 2.5m when he was manager at Highbury.
