Caley soak up buses cost

Parkhead Parkhead: Full, on a good day

Free transport is to be laid on for Inverness Caledonian Thistle fans going to Glasgow for next week's re-arranged Scottish Cup tie against Celtic.

Saturday's game at Parkhead was called off half an hour before the kick-off because high winds dislodged guttering from the roof of a stand.

About 5,000 fans had made the long journey south.

Inverness Caley says nothing can compensate fans for the disappointment but it plans to pick up the tab for all the buses booked for the match on Tuesday 8 February.

Chairman David Sutherland hopes as many fans as possible will be able to make the journey, although he admits Saturday's numbers will be impossible to repeat.

Winds of up to 60mph had caused the damage to the Parkhead ground, which the club boasts is the best stadium in the UK.

The gales damaged a piece of guttering on the East Stand, which experts said could not be repaired in time to allow the match to go ahead even with a delayed start.

Celtic need to repair the problem in time for a high-profile friendly with European Cup finalists Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
