Turkey call up Izzet

Izzet scored nine goals this season before getting injured

Leicester midfielder Muzzy Izzet must chose whether to play for Turkey or hold-out for an England call-up after being asked to play for the Turks in the Euro 2000 finals this summer.

Izzet is eligible to play for Turkey through his father but it is England boss Kevin Keegan he wants to impress.

The Turks face Italy, Belgium and Sweden in the finals and keen to draft in the free-scoring 25-year-old.

Keegan has watched the former Chelsea player in action several times this season, but he has still not handed him a first call-up.

The approach by Turkey has left Izzet with "a lot to think about".

"Playing in Euro 2000 sounds like it would be a great experience although part of me wants to find out how far I could go with England," said Izzet.

"This approach from Turkey has given me a lot to think about and it will not be an easy decision.

"Originally when Turkey sounded me out in the past as a youngster I would have had to do national service if I played for Turkey. But that is no longer the case."

Izzet scored nine goals early in the season before being forced out for a month through injury. He made returned to senior action in last night's goalless Worthington Cup semi-final first-leg clash at Aston Villa.
