Beckham faces two-match ban
David Beckham could be banned for two games, after receiving a red card during Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Necaxa.
But he is also in danger of missing the final group game with South Melbourne as well.
Fifa's director of communications, Keith Cooper, said Beckham's punishment would be decided by the disciplinary committee when it meets in the next couple of days.
"He will miss at least one game as there is an automatic one match suspension," he said. "Then it's for the authorities to decide if there should be more than that." The night would have been a total disaster for United had Dwight Yorke, who missed a 78th-minute penalty, not equalised eight minutes from time in the Maracana Stadium. United were heading towards what would have been an embarrassing defeat against the supposed Mexican minnows, after Cristian Montecinos had netted from a 14th-minute free-kick. Alex Aguinaga also squandered a spot-kick for Necaxa before Yorke's late strike. United must now defeat Vasco, who beat South Melbourne 2-0 on Thursday in their opening match, if they are to revive their hopes of reaching the final.
