Ghana's soccer boss quits

The head coach of Ghana's national football team Rinus Israel has resigned after his team were knocked out of the African Nations Cup in Burkina Faso.

The squad's technical director, Fred Osam-Duodu, will stand in for the Dutch-born coach until a permanent replacement is appointed

Ghana has won the cup on four occasions. But they were eliminated from this year's tournament - being held in Burkina Faso - when they were beaten 1-0 by the Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday.

A source close to the Ghanaian national squad said that Mr Israel would have quit even if his side had gone on to win the tournament.

The coach wanted to leave because of disagreements with team officials over player selection, the source said.
