Bayern lose Lizarazu

Bixente Lizarazu will remain on the sideline for the European Cup final

French international full-back Bixente Lizarazu will miss the European Cup final against Manchester United on Wednesday.

United's Euro Showdown
The Bayern Munich left-back, who was a key member of France's World Cup winning team last year, has failed to recover from a left knee injury he picked up in his country's Euro 2000 qualifier with Ukraine on 27 March.

Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said: "We've given up on the idea. His physical deficiencies are too Big and the risk factor is too high.

"Bixente is too valuable for the Bayern - he won't play again this season."

Lizarazu, who has been training sporadically for weeks, still complains about light pain in his injured left knee.
