Solanki gets tourists off to winning start

Vikram Solanki: 73 vital runs for the tourists

England's A-team got their winter tour off to a winning start with a straightforward victory over Bangladesh Under-19s in their opening match in Dhaka.

Worcestershire batsman Vikram Solanki led the way with an impressive knock of 73.

He shared a third-wicket stand of 98 with Northamptonshire's David Sales, who made 60, as England reached 208 for eight.

And with the practice match reduced to 40 overs a side due to rain, the tourists earned a 70-run triumph on the Duckworth-Lewis method as the Bangladesh youngsters were restricted to 150 for nine.

Davies does the damage

Northants spinner Michael Davies was the pick of the English bowlers with two for 13 in eight overs.

There were also two wickets apiece for Essex all-rounder Ronnie Irani and Paul Franks of Nottinghamshire.

England A coach Martyn Moxon said: "Obviously it's nice to win, but I think the fact that we performed so well, given that we have not had much preparation time out here, means that I am highly delighted.

"Vikram Solanki's innings in particular was a great knock - he was timing it like it was mid-summer - and David Sales played the way he can as a very strong player."
