Hansen produces golden leap

Ashia Hansen - found her rhythm at the right moment

Ashia Hansen added a gold to England's medal haul with a leap of 14.32 metres in the triple jump.

The Birmingham athlete was taking part in only her second competition since damaging her ankle when setting a world indoor record in Spain.

Her first two efforts were red-flagged, but she found her rhythm for the third round and it was good enough to win.

Hansen limped away from the pit after her next attempt and opted not to make any more jumps.

"I am very, very, very relieved. I've only had six weeks training in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games. It's been a depressing year but this is a nice way to finish, " she said.

"The world record was more of an achievement for me - that matters because I can see where I am going. This was just important to lift my spirits after a bad season.

Francois Mbango of Cameroon prevented an English 1-2 with a best effort of 13.95, leaving Hansen's teammate Connie Henry (13.94) in third place.
