Naz goes it alone

Hamed - on the look-out for his next opponent

WBO featherweight boxing champion Prince Naseem Hamed has confirmed a split from British fight promoter Frank Warren.

BBC boxing correspondent John Rawling reports (Radio 5 Live)
His agreement with Warren expired following his last title defence against Wayne McCullough and he has now decided to leave his brother Riath to negotiate on his behalf.

Hamed recently parted company with long-time trainer Brendan Ingle and is training in a rival gym in his home town of Sheffield.

"Naz is exercising his right to retain his worldwide rights and control his own destiny," his brother commented.

"We have four years experience in boxing management and Naz has 17 years experience of promoters and managers.

"Whatever decisions we make will not be done on a whim. We will be taking advice from lawyers and commercial experts."

Plans for a fight against Paul Ingle in April have fallen through, with Ingle preferring to defend his European title against Steve Robinson.

Manager Frank Maloney said: "It is Paul's decision and I respect it. But he has put all his eggs in one basket. If anything goes wrong with Robinson, Paul is way out of the world title picture."
