Imran hits back at Shoaib's critics

Imran Khan: No stranger to controversy himself

Pakistan legend Imran Khan has defended his countryman Shoaib Akhtar over claims that the paceman's manner of delivery is suspect.

"It is ridiculous and generated by those who fear Shoaib. He has a clear and genuine action," said the former Pakistan captain.

Imran's comments follow derogatory comments made by media sources in India and Sri Lanka over Shoaib's action during the recent triangular Asian Test Championships.

"Shoaib caused havoc in India with his pace and bowled too well against Sri Lanka in the limited over games and that is why they are raising questions."

The player is generally regarded as the fastest bowler in the world at present and is thought by many observers, including Imran, to be a key player over the next six weeks.
