Ladies: Learn the tango
Animated graphic of steps for the ladies
The eight-step salida for the follower
Leading the tango is more than just learning the basic steps.

Tango experts recommend keeping the following things in mind when dancing.

  • It takes two to tango
This is a rule to live by. As a follower, you should feel free to embellish but you also must be able to "listen" to the beat your partner gives and keep your own steps in time with the music.

  • Don't think too much
Concentrating too much on the steps can ruin the flow of the dance. Yes, memorise the steps but you also should try to feel the music

  • Have fun
Most important, dancing the tango should be fun. With so much else to remember, this what most people forget. Experts say the best dancers are those who let go the images of the passionate and submissive tanguera and just relax.
