Hendry's double jeopardy

Hendry has an unwelcome shadow hanging over his Euro 2000 battle

Scotland skipper Colin Hendry will risk jeopardising his move to the English Premiership if he picks up an injury during his country's Euro 2000 play-off against England.

The BBC's Eleanor Oldroyd: "Rangers are already pursuing the Scottish FA for compensation"
The 34-year-old is unable to win a regular place at Rangers and the Glasgow giants have agreed a £1.5m transfer to Derby County where he is more likely to find first-team football.

But the Scottish Premiership club say they will be seeking compensation if an injury in either leg causes the deal to collapse.

Hendry collected a knee injury while on international duty against Bosnia at Ibrox last month and it is proving slow to heal.

Rangers are already pursuing the Scottish Football Association for compensation for the four-week lay-off Hendry needed after that game.

Craig Brown: "We are not hoping for a battle but for a game of football"
Rangers chairman David Murray warned: "We have agreed to sell Colin to Derby at a price of £1.5million rising to £2million with extras. That deal could collapse if he plays against England and is hurt again.

"We would then be looking at all sorts of problems in the sense that any future deal could be considerably less and his wages too would have to be taken into consideration," told the Scottish Express.

Hendry was due to take part in an Under-21 match for Rangers against Celtic at Livingston to test the joint but Scotland manager Craig Brown scrapped the plan.

Brown, facing a growing injury crisis ahead of the Euro 2000 play-off at Hampden, wants his captain to work the injury in a "controlled environment".
