This is News Online's selection of the most memorable games.
Scotland 0-0 England The first official international fixture in world football, and the first goalless draw between two countries started the tradition.
England 1-5 Scotland England were humbled at home by a Scotland side who were instantly dubbed the Wembley Wizards.
It was England's second international at Wembley. They had drawn the
first with Scotland, 1-1, four years earlier.
England 9-3 Scotland Jimmy Greaves grabbed a hat-trick as England went goal crazy at Wembley. They had already put nine past Luxembourg in the same season and went onto score eight against Mexico in the next game. Bobby Robson started the rout for Walter Winterbottom's team against their Scottish rivals. Johnny Haynes and Bobby Smith scored two each and Brian Douglas piled on the misery for Scotland.
Scotland 2-1 England Jim Baxter, in his heyday, scored both Scotland goals as England lost their first Home International under Alf Ramsey. In the days before substitutes were allowed, the Scots played much of the game with 10 men after Eric Caldow broke a leg in a challenge with Bobby Smith.
England 2-3 Scotland The Scots crowned themselves unofficial champions of the world as they beat Alf Ramsey's world champions less than a year after their greatest triumph.
Denis Law scored first and Bobby Lennox made it 2-0. Jack Charlton broke a toe and, again with no replacements allowed, was sent to hobble around up front where he pulled a goal back for the world champions. Jim McCalliog, on his debut, put the Scots further ahead before Geoff Hurst scored England's second. But, in a qualifying contest for the European Championship quarter-finals, England still prevailed after a 1-1 draw in Glasgow a year later.
England 5-1 Scotland Don Revie was in charge of England and they hammered the Scots with a superb performance in the Home International at Wembley. Gerry Francis scored twice as Scotland suffered one of their heaviest ever defeats at the hands of England.
England 1-2 Scotland Goals by Gordon McQueen and Kenny Dalglish gave Scotland a second successive victory over the Auld Enemy and triggered a party for the Tartan Army, which got a little out of hand. Jubilant Scottish fans invaded the pitch after the match to carve up the turf and demolish the goalposts to take home as souvenirs of their first win at Wembley for 10 years. Mick Channon pulled a goal back for England from the penalty spot but it was not enough. Scotland won the Home International championship and England finished a disappointing third.
Scotland 0-2 England
Goals from Bull and Chris Waddle secured England's victory on
what was their last visit to Glasgow and helped them win the fifth and final
Rous Cup.
England 2-0 Scotland Paul Gascoigne's goal and David Seaman's penalty save from Gary McAllister made it England's day in Euro 96.
Gascoigne made the game safe with a memorable solo goal. He lifted the ball over the head of Colin Hendry and volleyed low into the corner to spark English celebrations.
