As they become man and wife, a single dove was released as a symbol of their love.

The wedding was held out of the sight of press cameras at a castle on the outskirts of Dublin.

Up to 500 guests are thought to have flown into Dublin for what has been dubbed the showbusiness wedding of the year.

Fellow Spice Girls, Mel G, Mel C and Emma were expected and many of Beckham's England and Manchester United team-mates jetted in early to make a weekend of it, including Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Dwight York.

Sir Elton John is flying in specially between Italian concerts to sing and play for the couple.

Golden couple

On the eve of the wedding, Beckham's Manchester United team mates celebrated by going to a Fatboy Slim concert in Dublin.

But it was not a stag night occasion as Beckham was not there and some of the team were accompanied by their girlfriends.

Many argue that celebrities are the new royalty and everyone wants to catch a glimpse of the couple.

Posh and Becks have been called the celebrity couple of the decade, worth an estimated £25m, with a mutual taste for the high life and a seemingly cast-iron devotion to each other.

Squads of security guards have been employed to keep prying eyes and camera lenses from gaining unwanted access to medieval Luttrellstown castle, which Victoria Adams and David Beckham have hired for their wedding.

The gothic castle is set in 560 acres (227 hectares) of land, screened from public view by tall, leafy trees and a winding driveway.

It is an exclusive luxury retreat for the rich and famous. Former guests include former US President Ronald Reagan, movie star Paul Newman and rock group REM.

The price of a Luttrellstown wedding is a minimum of $13,000.

No expense has been spared for the celebrations which are said to include a £48-a-head sit-down dinner, children's amusements, an 18-piece orchestra and fireworks display.

Shopping vouchers

The celebrity couple will not have trouble footing the bill.

They have reputedly sold the exclusive rights to photograph the event to a magazine for £1m.

Victoria Adams, more popularly known as Posh Spice, is a multi-millionaire in her own right thanks to the Spice Girls.

Beckham is already a millionaire midfielder idolised across the world for his pin-up looks as much as his prowess on the football field.

They will not be getting any presents. They have asked for shopping vouchers instead.

Afterwards they will jet off to a honeymoon in a strictly secret location.
