Connery, who has been invited to the ceremony in Edinburgh, said Scotland's voice would now be heard properly for the first time.

The Hollywood star and Scottish National Party supporter was speaking at a news conference in Edinburgh to promote his latest film Entrapment with co-star Catherine Zeta- Jones.

He said the opening ceremony at the parliament's temporary home in the Church of Scotland Assembly Hall on Thursday would be a personal milestone.
