Assam fighting 'spreads to Bhutan'
Separatist rebels in the north-east Indian state of Assam say their bases inside neighbouring Bhutan have come under attack by Assamese police commandos over the past few days. The main rebel group, the United Liberation Front of Assam (Ulfa) says an unspecified number of its fighters were killed before the attacks were successfully repelled. The authorities in Assam have denied the ULFA statement. They say many of the rebels have grown weary of the struggle and have begun fighting among themselves.
