The senior leader of India's main opposition Bharatiya Jananta Party, Lal Krishna Advani, wants the Indian Prime Minister to clarify the government's position on reports of phone-tapping of key political leaders.

He was asking the questions in Parliament, amidst a breaking scandal where claims have emerged that the mobile phones of politicians, including a federal minister, were being tapped.

The claims in Outlook magazine allege the phones were tapped by the government using equipment from a federal intelligence agency.
