Spain whip India in World Cup hockey

India vs Spain
India is virtually out of the reckoning

India's campaign for the men's field hockey World Cup in Delhi has suffered a second successive blow as the team went down 2-5 to Spain.

Australia defeated them by a similar margin on Tuesday. They are now unlikely to proceed in the tournament.

Pau Quemada and David Alegre converted three penalty corners and Albert Sala and captain Pol Amat scored field goals for Spain.

Sandeep Singh and Gurwinder Chandi reduced the margin for India.

India has not managed to qualify for the semi-finals in eight World Cup hockey tournaments since winning the title in 1975.

Separately, England beat Pakistan 5-2 to stay unbeaten in the tournament.

England leads Pool B with 9 points, Australia and Spain have 6 each, India and Pakistan have 3 each, and South Africa was yet to earn a point.
