Sri Lanka tense ahead of election

Sri Lanka is preparing to elect a new president after a bitter campaign between current leader President Rajapaksa and the former army chief General Sarath Fonseka.

They are both closely associated with the government's defeat of the Tamil Tigers last May but the pair fell out bitterly soon after.

Election clashes have so far left four dead and hundreds wounded.

Charles Haviland reports.
