Hillary Clinton welcomes Nato troop commitment

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has welcomed Nato's announcement that 7,000 more troops will be sent to Afghanistan to join the US troop surge.

Mrs Clinton was speaking in Brussels after Nato Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen made the announcement.

She expressed the US's gratitude, stressing the need for the allies to "work together to deny al-Qaeda a safe haven".
