Quake jolts Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan
A moderate earthquake, centred in Afghanistan, has also been felt in Pakistan and Tajikistan. The Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press AIP reported that a man and his three-year-old son were killed when the roof of their house collapsed in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, near the Afghan border. It said the quake also caused cracks in several houses in the area. Residents of the Afghan capital, Kabul, were woken by the tremor in the early hours of the morning ; there were no reports of damage or casualities there or in Tajikistan. It was the second quake to have hit Tajikistan in the past twenty-four hours. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
