Many killed in Nepal landslides

Map

Floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains have killed at least 34 people in western Nepal, officials say.

Twelve people, including many children, were buried when two houses were swept away in Dadeldhura, 480kms (300 miles) from the capital, Kathmandu.

At least 18 people died in the nearby Achham district. Officials said heavy rains were hampering rescue work.

Floods and landslides are common in Nepal during the monsoon season. More than 50 people have died since June.

Officials said two deaths had been reported from Bajhang while Kailali and Doti districts each reported one death.
