Tamil refugees begin the return home

Since the Sri Lankan government defeated the Tamil Tiger rebels in May, nearly 280,000 ethnic Tamil war refugees have been kept in government-run camps.

The Menik Farm camp holds about a quarter of a million who left the war zone in the final weeks and the authorities are now starting to send some of these people home.

The BBC's Charles Haviland travelled to Trincomalee in eastern Sri Lanka to meet some of the first to have come out of the camp.
