West Bengal Communist leader dies

A senior Communist leader and minister Subhas Chakrabarty has died in India's eastern West Bengal state.

Mr Chakrabarty, 66, was an influential politician and the transport and sports minister in the Communist government in the state.

Mr Chakrabarty had been suffering from a kidney disease.

The chief of ruling Left Front coalition Biman Bose described Mr Chakrabarty as "one of the greatest mass leaders" in West Bengal.
