The International Committee of the Red Cross says it has been told by Sri Lanka to scale back its operations.

The news comes amid continuing concern over the fate of hundreds of thousands of civilians displaced by the war.

Five doctors, now in Government custody, have also appeared in front of the media saying they exaggerated civilian casualty figures during recent fighting.

Charles Haviland reports from Colombo.
