Peshawar is hit by 'suicide bomb'

map

At least one person has been killed in a suspected suicide bombing near a checkpoint in the centre of the Pakistani city of Peshawar, police say.

Initial reports say that the bomber is the only person who died.

Last month Peshawar's luxury Pearl Continental hotel was hit by a suicide bombing which left at least 18 people dead including two UN staff.

Peshawar is the main city near the Swat valley, where an offensive is being waged against the Taliban.
